(UN)COMMON SPACES Emerging artist

MOVEDBYMATTER is a transdisciplinary art organisation led by performance artist Kasper Vandenberghe.

For each project, this art organisation starts from an uninhibited research into the relationship between performer, audience and matter. MOVEDBYMATTER is driven by the irrepressible desire to master that relationship while at the same time it’s searching for the fatal point at which that mastery will inevitably fail. The performer sets matter into motion, but in the end he is also moved by it. Each time, this experience is translated in a distinctive visual, physical and ritualistic manner. Its approach leads MOVEDBYMATTER to various art disciplines, subjects, places, audiences and collaborations: from circus to video art, from ‘Where exactly does the power of vulnerability lie?’ to ‘What does the concept of masculinity mean for children today?’, from a black box and circus tent to a viaduct, from families and teenagers to a seasoned theatre crowd. For MOVEDBYMATTER wonder is key, as is its ambition to create artistically challenging and layered pieces that remain accessible to a broad audience. Kasper has several new projects in the planning for the next years.

The work of MOVEDBYMATTER is more and more shifting and transforming — how to integrate the non-dualism view point on the world and what kind of effect it has on the art and there for on all aspects  like ecology and sustainability. How to create new rituals and reinvent the place of the audience as a spectator and participant.
