IN SITU artists bear witness to European challenges

Publication

What a long way we’ve come since 2016!The goal of developing IN SITU into an ecosystem dedicated to structuring the artistic creation in public space sector in Europe is becoming more and more of a reality every day.

Despite ever-increasing constraints, whether financial, security or political, which are further exacerbated by the shrinking of public space, the 20 network partners continue to work passionately with audiences, convinced that the irreverent perspective of emerging artists creating in public space can provide a unique take on the reality and challenges of our contemporary European societies.

This structuring requires an overall review of the life of the network. The past year has been an opportunity to address cross-cutting topics such as diversity and gender balance regarding supported artists. Consideration has also beengiven to how to expand the network, which has always been intended to involve a gradual approach.

2019 will be a year of construction. The network keeps on accompanying artists through the Ateliers (in Autumn in The United Kingdom, Italy and Norway) as well as residencies and mobility. The Pilot projects are either on tour (Twenty-eight, Foreign Tongues, PIG, Studio Cité) or on creation (A certain value, In Search of Democracy 3.0)  The Think Tank is launched, Artistic Acupunctures for Places in Europe started in Graz, Austria, at the end of 2018 and will continue in the coming months. As for training, the MOOC adventure is taking shape. We look forward to seeing you next September for the launch!
